62 Outer rear bumper mounting block and pads.

There appears to be no kit of parts to mount the far outer bolt on the 62 rear bumpers. Is there something to slip in between the paint about 1/4" and bumper? I have been told by tech people nothing was there but just doesn't seem right as the earlier cars had something and it looks much more refined. Without something there you can see a poorly cut out hole through fiberglass, and would need to use some big washer on the bumper bolt inside the body and out into the bumper. Thanks

John, My 63 I used a lock washer which was the same dia. of the hole and the thickness was near perfect and cannot be seen. The 62 may be a little different in thickness. but there are many types and thickness of washers. surely there maybe one to be found. breaking the fiberglass when you tighten the bumper bolts is a pill on a new paint job.

      John,
Im not buying into your assumption that there is 1/4" gap between bumper and body, and the body has a "poorly cut hole." Over the past 41 years I've owned 28 62's, and only the damaged and inadequately-repaired ones would fit your description. An original 62 has no gap between the bumper and the body, and you don't have to use the bolt, washer, and lock-washer to try to pull it in tight. No hole shows at all.

Thank you very much Mike for the quick reply. I doubt there would be any better source than you, so I will go back to the car and re-assess. it is all repainted in black lacquer so I'll need to plan what to do with the apparently mutilated hole size inside the fender. Never planned a high point judging car. Did try to do right where able, with so much in correct parts and outside labor though. At 75 yrs. old , it is past time to get it finished, before I check out. Much appreciative. John

            John,

I don't know if you already have enough information but here are a couple of pictures of the brackets I think you're talking about. I'm fairly certain that these are unmolested.

Terry, Thanks for taking the time, and the response. I finally was able to resolve the problem that I somewhat created by disassembly of this car 27yrs. ago and not keeping notes and pics. There are no inside bumper braces for the outer bumper mount bolts. They just bolt right to the resin body by a bolt through the glass, and no pad. I was surprised. All done now and looks fine. Appreciate all help from those responding. JA.
