    C 1 Brake lite switch

Has anyone had this problem, every year when I take the 1960 out of storage the rear break lites don't work.this means a new switch, the ones i get look just like the orig. but the following season same failure comes up,the switch contacts remain in the open position and fail to put power to the rear tailites,I remove the switch, spray a cleaner/lite lube and hand operate the plunger on the switch ,and bingo it begins to work.Is their a replacement switch that would function properly year after year? I have adjusted the plunger all the way out so that it is like a hair trigger to activate.
    any thoughts/suggestions....? Francis

      Francis,

All of today's replacements are plastic. You would have to search for a NOS part, or take your original apart to clean the contacts. Spraying contact cleaner in the plunger is just a temporary fix, and can sometimes cause more trouble.

To take originals apart, carefully bend the tabs to remove the terminal end cap. You can then clean the contacts and if necessary, use a fine file and clean with alcohol. When you reassemble bend the tabs back down slowly but firmly.

I repaired a original not long ago and it now works fine. I didn't take any pictures though.
