Recently work was done on my car by a Collision Shop to remove and re-core my car's copper core radiator (base engine, automatic, w/AC). When the work was completed, it was apparent that nothing fit right. There is now a large gap between both radiator shroud pieces (main unit and extension) that was not there previously, and the top insulator support brackets do not seat down on top of the radiator as they had before. The core measures just over 26 inches wide as a SB core should, but is not the correct reproduction in terms of the top spreader bar and its appearance. The passenger side tank reads "Harrison" but the data tag is missing. I do not know the reason but hope my original side tanks were not substituted with something else. Prior to having everything disturbed again, I am trying to determine the specific cause of the problem. Can anyone help shed some light on this? Thank you!

Re: Fitment 71 Copper Radiator
Very difficult to answer without seeing it, but I suspect that the radiator is not seated low enough into the bottom brackets/cushions.
If the rubber pads/insulators were replaced then the radiator can be installed in such a way that it doesn't sit right, and will be 3/8 inch too high.
If the data tag is now gone I highly suspect that they did not attach the same significance to it that you do, and it was thrown away. To them it just gets in the way, and if not specifically addressed in the "things thou shalt not touch" disclaimer you reviewed with them before the project started then... bye bye.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: Fitment 71 Copper Radiator
Thank you. The possibility also exists that it was stolen by the individual, a self-proclaimed "corvette restorer on the side", who did the work as an employee of the collision shop. I'm trying to determine if these are the same side tanks that were taken off the car? Can you tell me how the Harrison ID Tag is attached to the side tank? Thanks for your help!- Top

Seth,
I had a little trouble loading these pictures, and for some reason they appeared at the top of the post. Anyway, as you can see, the "Harrison" logo is an embossment, not a tag. It was stamped from the inside of the tank, so the letters protrude outward. Also note the rectangle, and square holes in the top bar of the core. These holes are located both left and right, and on both top and bottom of the core spreader bars. The MI9 tag you lost is not soldered to the tank, but simply clips onto the edge of the side tank where it meets the core.
The photos are of a tank removed from a 71 base engine/auto car.

Re: Fitment 71 Copper Radiator
Thank you Mike, great help! Just one last question. Hard to see from the picture of side tank, but I am seeing faint numbers appearing under the "Harrison" embossment? If so, do you know what they are and what they mean? This could help me determine what I don't have. Thank you!!- Top

Re: Fitment 71 Copper Radiator
I think I now see that under the "Harrison" embossment it reads "FiLL 91 COLD". Is this correct? Also, one last thing. Can you please tell me how wide the passenger side tank measures from the from of the top surface (next to filler neck) to the rear? The one I have seems too wide.
Thank you!- Top

Re: Fitment 71 Copper Radiator
Seth,
There is another embossment below the Harrison logo that reads "FILL COLD". There is an arrow pointing upward between the words Fill, and Cold. There are no numbers. Front to rear, the thickest part of the side tank looks to be 3.5 inches (first photo). Left to right, the widest part of the tank is approximately 3.75 inches.

Re: Fitment 71 Copper Radiator
Mike,
Thank you. Your help has been invaluable. Based upon all the information you provided, my tanks match-up. Whether or not they are original to the car will be impossible to tell without the tag which I am certain was there prior to the work. The other piece missing is the original overflow hose (replaced with a new one) and the overflow hose clip. Would be able to verify for me where the overflow clip, a pressure spring clip as I recall, belongs? Again, many thanks for invaluable assistance.

Seth
Here are 3 photos 1 is a good one for the FILL (ARROW) COLD. Next a tag attached on a 69 the hose clip would have been installed below the tag. Then a non Corvette with both the tag and clip. The 2 letter code on the overflow clip that I have seen is B-H for Corvettes the are most likely other codes. I know no reproducers for the Corvette clip or Broadcast radiator code. Others may have a source.- Top

Re: Fitment 71 Copper Radiator
Seth,
Sorry, I've been offline for awhile. I see that Paul was able to post some photos for you. Good luck with getting your radiator problem sorted out. As I said in a previous post, I'll be at Bloomington and Carlisle this year and I'll keep an eye out for an MI9 tag for you.
