    62 RF block

Hey fellas, I came across a 62 RF block, which according to the suffix chart I found, says it's a 62 327 , 360 hp FI block. Any ideas on what the approx. value would be assuming it isn't damaged.

    Re: 62 RF block

Need more info. Is there a vin stamp on it? What is the assembly date? It could be a 62, a 63, or a 64 with an RF on it. What is the casting date on the passenger side rear? Does it look like a factory stamp or a restamp? Broach marks? Standard bore, .030 over, .060 over? Without that info, it is very hard to estimate value.

Here is what I know, date code is F152 ( June 15 of 62 ). Engine stamp F0520RF. Casting # is 3782870. Standard bore with the original steel crank ( supposedly ). All markings appear original and not tampered with.

You can't have an engine date stamp preceding the casting date, recheck the information and repost.

The charts show the casting # to be for a 62-67. The "RF" is supposed to be a 62 FI block ( 360 HP ). Unless I'm not understanding ( which is highly possible ) the F152 is June 15 of 62. Am I off on something ?

Do these numbers mean the block was cast on the 15th ( F152 ) and assembled on the 20th ( F0620) ?

              John,

Assembly stamp from your photo is F0620RF (6 not 5), which makes the assembly date June 20th.

Your post says May 20th, but the pad stamp says June 20th. Dates line up.

                      Re: 62 RF block

I'd say the value is minimal. There weren't a lot of 62s built after that--it would belong in a car built very late June or July. Maybe 1100 built after that, probably about 150 with FI. So 1) you are looking for a narrow audience, and 2) there is significant pitting and possible condition-related issues. In my mind $75-100. However, if you own a 62 fuelie built in that time range that needs a block, double or triple that.

I could not tell from this discussion if the block had a VIN derivative on it or not. If so, try to determine if the car still exists. It is worth the most to the owner of the car it goes to. If not, or car doesn't exist, what Mike Ernst said.

The truth is there is another bunch that may be interested in he block. The first 25, 1963 Corvettes were hand built. They are referred to as the Pilot Line cars. The dates of the blocks of some of these may fit right in your date frame cars.

Like a prototype sand cast fuel injection unit I have, there is only a few cars they would actually be correct on. I would have to look, but I am sure you may be in the date range of some of those cars.

I may even know someone who may be interested in it. But again, because there are so few interested in those dates, the price is typically not very good. Also, someone mentioned the pitting. If that is consistent across the block, that would be a huge red flag.

                          Nice find though.

I do not see a Vin Stamp...Pitting "so what" ? it's old. Condition points do not apply on the pad. I do see what appears to be a faint bottom leg of an "E" on the "F". This may be just the picture.

NCRS allows a 6 month window preceding the car's build date for a block's casting date. Therefore candidate buyers looking for a correctly dated block are up to and including December 15 62. That includes many 63's.

                              In 2013 I sold a 1962 original short block 2109630 F0222RF
B202 cast date. With crank, and pistons and camshaft, for $500.

It is now rebuilt in a ''real'' 62 fuel car that was missing its original engine. We believed it better to have a real Corvette 62 fuel engine in a real 62 fuel car has more value
