Does anyone have carburetor stud horizontal dimensions for big block vs small block. Would an L-88 cold air hood on a 67 center on the carb for a small block? I'm under the impression that a Big Block carb center is in a slightly different location than a small block in the horizontal plane.

I believe there is about a 13/16" difference. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Is that 13/16" cross-car difference in the carb stud location in the intake manifold? I would think so, as the engine centerline location is the same cross-car between the SB and the BB.- Top

I'm not sure where the difference is and it might very well be entirely due to the manifold. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Maybe I misunderstood something here. Are you talking about the "left-to-right" centering or are you talking about "front-to-rear" centering? If you're talking about "left-to-right" centering (or, offset therefrom), disregard my earlier response. I have no idea if there's a difference in "left-to-right" centering between big block and small block. However, I sort of doubt there is.Last edited by Joe L.; May 15, 2015, 10:49 PM.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Carburetor centerline Big Block VS small block
Probably front to rear. I recall a friend who had a 63 with a 327 who wanted more muscle and chose to use a Pontiac 389 as a replacement. He bought a crate engine complete with tri-power, bolted it to his four speed and expected it to just fall in place. i don't recall if he changed the side mounts or not, but he could not get any air cleaners that would fit under a stock hood. He had to make his own scoop (bulge) in his hood to clear (not good in the rain). This, of course, was before even a 65 BB.

Jerry, the BB cold air hood will not fit a SB because the BB carb is taller and further forward. The fiberglass folks used to make a SB 67 cold air hood insert. I can send you a pic of one you can make yourself if you would like. Scott- Top
