    1970 350/350 A/C water pump fastener finish

Can I get some opinions on the finish/paint for the fasteners on this 1970 350 water pump? The bottom right is painted orange, bottom left on A/C bracket is grey phosphate and top bolt on bracket is zinc. Top right bolt with alternator bracket is zinc. Sorry the picture is upside down.

Bill, everything looks correct in the pic. water pump bolts were originally painted after assy. of the block and then removed bolts for Any braces that were to be installed and new bolts were installed, they should be plated with out any paint. The Zinc may not be correct finish, black phosphate may be correct, although if the JM says Zinc than so be it.

The passenger side UPPER bolt was to be the original engine plant-installed bolt removed and reinstalled to attach the bracket. So, there should be engine paint on it, although possibly chipped.

The passenger side lower bolt could have been one of two bolts depending on the build date of the car. I don't know the finish of the first bolt, GM #3779940. This bolt was used through most of the model year. The second bolt, GM #9419064, had a black phosphate finish.

The driver side upper bolt (brace retaining) was black phosphate finished.

Caveat: the above are what GM says were to be used. Whether these were actually used I do not know.
