    Replacing Windshield washer pump cover

In replacing 1970 pump cover there a two wires that must be removed from the front of the cover. The connectors for these wires are strange and I do not want to pull on the wrong part and break them. the wire seems to be crimped on to a brass tang that enters a silvery plated cylindrical object protruding from the pump cover. Does the brass tang pull out of the cylindrical piece or does the cylindrical piece pull off the rest of the pump? The cover is made from a strange material that is decomposing and the repro cover is made of thin plastic a that looks different.

Patrick, the little tang has a bullet shape and it pulls out of the cylindrical piece.

If they have not been pulled out in a while and/or were pushed in hard they can be difficult to get out, and if you pull on the wire too hard it may break. If at all possible try to grab the back of the tang with small pliers and gently wiggle it while pulling. And when you put them back in I've found you really don't need to push them in that hard to hold, and they'll be easier to remove next time.

    Good luck

      Hi Patrick,
The original motor/pump covers were made of a very thin but flexible smooth black plastic.
I'd describe it as being very similar to the plastic used in the interior behind the dash pads for the ducts for the astro-vents and the defroster duct.
      Regards,
      Alan
