What determines an original 67 wing nut from a repro. Considering asking prices for an original, positive ID is essential.

Re: Identifying an original 1967 air cleaner wing nut
No mickey mouse ears. Should have grind marks on ears, thickness is dime - not nickel, ends should be curved/rounded as opposed to more squared ends. Pointer finger should fit in the wingnut without interference from the ears. ARA- Top

Re: Identifying an original 1967 air cleaner wing nut
Here is a photo of an original from my original 66 BB car ---
The nut on the left is the air cleaner nut and the one on the right is the battery hold down nut....
The wing nut has a mild pinch in the ears vs. the battery nut and the ears are a bit smaller in length, height and width ---- and of course they are chrome --- and the chrome is not that nice --- i.e. flash chrome ---
Hope this helps a bit ---- (I guess you might want to ask yourself --- what is a single point really worth??? Seems like an incorrect nut might go unnoticed or have a minimal deduction at best ---) Just my two cents ----
Regards
Bill

Thank you. I have to agree with you. It does not make much sense paying 150-165 for a wing nut that is probably a very minor deduction.- Top

Re: Identifying an original 1967 air cleaner wing nut
If you look under this section for similar threads, you will see a post by John Hinckley stating that GM used 25,000 wing nuts per day from at least 3 different sources. Hard to believe that only one type is the correct wing nut.- Top

Similar to what Wayne posted --- here is the side view of the previous photo (from my 66 car) ---
Pretty similar in nature ----

While we're on the subject of air cleaner wingnuts......Here's a few pictures on a C1....(more specifically a '59) They've never been a judging issue and most judges have never even addressed them.....Do you think they are original?

It is a little hard to tell from the provided pictures, but I'm inclined to think it's an original wing nut.
