1967 Early Versus Late J50 Brake Calipers

On a March 30 built 1967 with J50 brakes, what would the application be... Early or Late?

I cannot seem to find the breakdown in the JG or here in the Archives. I also find it a bit confusing that the "LATE" casting numbers are numerically prior to the "EARLY" casting numbers.

The JG does have the wording for the Rears...."exact date of changeover is uncertain, but majority of cars used the later castings." No mention of breakdown in the Front JG section. I'd like to be diligent before I acquire rebuilt calipers.

The JG states these numbers for reference:
    ---------------------
    Front (Early)
    5465952 Outer
    5465954 Inner

    Rear (Early)
    5465902 Outer?
    5465905 Inner?

    ---------------------
    Front (Late)
    5452270 Outer
    5452273 Inner

    Rear (Late)
    5452281 Outer?
    5452284 Inner?

    ---------------------

    Thanks,
    Rich

I too have wondered why you would see 546 castings on 65-66, and 545 castings on 67-72s. The 547 castings are on 73-82s.
In any case, the 546s are first design calipers only seen on 65s and 66 cars. You will want 545s on your 67.

I think these are general guidelines and as you say, early in production year you would likely see some mix of the castings.
I would not consider a Mar 67 build likely to have 546 castings.

      Rich,

My 67 is a early (Sept 66) build car and I purchased 546 calipers to install but I have never understood when the change over date was for the 545 caliper.
