'This side up' on the bi-metallic strip of the Schwitzer may refer to the proper placement of the spring on the unit at mfr. Just a thought.

That is a good point as it seems to me that they would tend leak from the back side. You might very well be correct. I have owned a few NOS Schweitzer fan clutches over the years but I don't remember if there was anything on the box about storage.

If you need an original fan clutch contact David Sokolowski in Ca. he is all over the driveline.
then send it to Kirkconnel and they will do a great job restoring.
I have 4 of their restored fans in my cars. No complaints, no waiting, no excuses.
Great vendor. No NCRS deduction on their work.
