I'm restoring the dash cluster and having the dash coves recovered on my '66 427 convertible. Inevitably, this work will take more than a week to complete. I've been so focused on the cluster and coves work that I have given no thought to the need to move the car from time to time under its own power short distances of a couple of blocks. I've never removed the cluster before but have read most of the archived material on our TF. Page 190 of the AIM suggests the steering column is completely independent of the dash cluster and coves. The parking brake (this is a manual) seems also to be independently mounted.
So my question is: Can I drive the car only as necessary for short hop relocation purposes only w/o the dash cluster and coves? I will be taping over the loose dash instrument wire connections (after labelling them, of course) to avoid shorts. Of course, I will be w/o instruments, so will have to be careful about speed limits and redlines, but sight and sound will be a good judge of those. Are there any issues regarding the oil pressure line to avoid oil all over the interior? Are there any other electrical or mechanical issues I am overlooking?
