    Holley 2818-1 carb gas leak

    Hello;

    Unfortunately, the epoxy repair on the driver's side of the rear bowl has popped out, and gas is leaking onto my intake. I have the option of using "JB Weld" regular cure, or "PC-7" epoxy. Does anyone know if either is better for this application ? I'll be sanding the surface prior to applying epoxy. Thanks in advance.

    Personally, I would replace the damaged part. There is too much at risk to do otherwise. You've had one epoxy repair fail already, there's no reason to believe the other epoxies will perform any more reliably.

    I find it so sad when these cars burn.

      David - Not sure but was the repair with epoxy done to the 'plug' at the end of the transfer tube? I'm fairly sure the original configuration only had those plugs 'pressed' into place and no adhesives at all but after so many heat cycles, I suppose leaks can happen. Your carb, and engine for that matter, looks spotless, was it recently rebuilt and 'colored'? Short of looking for a replacement fuel bowl, maybe the inside surface needs to be roughed up a bit prior to using the epoxy to give it a bit more profile? Just a thought.

        David,

        Go to this thread.
        https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...310#post577310

        I had the same problem with the Holley 2818 on my '65 L79 equipped Corvette. I used the model airplane glue described in the thread and have not had a leak since I applied the glue.

        Hope this helps.

        Regards,

        James West
