Gents: I am participating in a small Texas town (New Waverly) Car Show next Saturday. Can any of you veterans give me 1 to 2 basic tips (e.g., etiquette, parking, prep, etc.). This is pretty small time compared to what you NCRS warriors do, yet, I've got to start somewhere. Any general guidance would really be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Re: First Car Show
Edmund,
You didn't state what car you are showing, I assume it is a Corvette. Among other things don't leave the car open (doors unlocked, hood up) and unattended. If it is an C1, 2 or 3 you might want to remove easily "removable" items like the gas cap, cigarette lighter, oil filler cap, radiator reservoir cap. Most (a great majority of) people attending shows are honest, decent folks and share the same love of automobiles as we do, enjoy their company, you will meet a lot of great people but...... do be attentive and prudent, there are some bad apples in the bunch.Ed- Top

Re: First Car Show
I attend car shows about 2 times a month in the summer locally, all small, but it is a good idea to have documents available too. I stick a copy of my window sticker on the window, also have the owners manual, etc. on the dash. I have had display boards made up with things like that and facts about the car, engine, HO, transmission, rear end, place of manufacture, first dealer, unusual items about the car that make it special, etc. This saves answering lots of questions and allows for discussions and memory reminiscences. I concentrate on cleanliness and keeping it shined up and looking new, if it is a survivor, that would not be important maybe. I would stay with the car as much as possible, thefts do happen, so make sure any irreplaceable or expensive small items are not on it.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

I don't remove anything at car shows; if you need to do that don't even go. I do watch my car carefully though and always place this sign where it is clearly visible.Attached Files- Top

Re: First Car Show
Have fun. That's all I do. I rarely make a effort to detail my car After all I drive it. I could care less if I win any trophies Just go to have fun, meet new people, look at cars, and did I say have fun. And if you have to worry about theft I would not even show up. I guess I'm lucky where I live I don't have to worry about that.- Top

Re: First Car Show
Bring a folding chair. Bring a sandwich. The food at these shows is terrible. Bring plenty of water and a wet rag. Remove the cigarette lighter and gas cap. I have cheap repros for these items that I use at shows. Put the fire extinguisher in the locked trunk. (You do have a fire extinguisher in the passenger compartment, don't you?) If you leave the hood open, cover the shiny air cleaner cover with a towel, and put a bolt in the hood support so that the wind doesn't blow it closed. Let children sit in the driver's seat and make vroom-vroom noises. Sit behind or beside the car in the chair and engage people in conversation. Some of the conversations are interesting. Try not to be a know-it-all when the guy tells you about the guy he knows who has a metal Corvette. When the dopey mouth-breather mother comes by with the infant in the stroller, casually get up from your chair and position yourself in between the stroller and your car. You can be obvious, because she's clueless and paying more attention to her cell phone conversation.- Top

Re: First Car Show
Ned - You'll have a good time and your car will get a lot of attention! People will want to hear the story so you'll get good at reciting that! Others have given you good pointers about a chair, food, and drink. If you have one, I'd suggest taking a scrapbook of any pictures you have of your car.
Let us know how the show goes. Several of us from the Houston area could head your direction at some upcoming show!

Re: First Car Show
Great tips guys and much obliged. I've owned a lot of muscle cars (e.g., still have my High School 1971 Buick GS 455 rag top and drive her on Fridays) and 2 previous Vettes. However, this C2 is such an honest, cool and sexy ride that my wife Julie is getting jealous of her a bit. It's nice to be back in the Corvette fold and the mentorship from NCRS brethren has been one of the nicer aspects as well. Thanks for all the guidance and thoughtful answers to questions (I'm sure you've seen many times before). Look forward to meeting some of the guys as some near point in time.- Top

Re: First Car Show
Consider bringing that C2 to the Lone Star Regional in Frisco in October. You could have it judged or bring as a Sportsman. We'd lover to see it and many of the folks who responded here will be there so you can meet them in person!- Top
