I am a new NCRS member who recently purchased a two owner 72 SCG car with the 454 and M21 trans. The car Ina's the original paint, interior, etc. it has a few non original hoses, and headers but everything else is original. The motor and trans are numbers matching which we have verified. The car has 56k original miles on it. I am trying to find out what is the best way to find any documents or options the car has on it. The second owner obtained it in 1978 from the original dealer who owed his firm some money with just under 18k miles on it. He kept a log, which we found in the car of every time the car was touched. He unfortunately fell onto hard times and only put 300 miles on the car in the last nine years. He originally had the window sticker, etc but during his divorce his ex wife either took them or destroyed them. He said he would keep looking, but I bought the car assuming they were gone forever. The car is a very low option car, in fact almost no options except the 454 and M21, with no power steering, no power brakes, or a/c. The original owner included an am/fm tape deck that he said was the original radio, but I know the tape was not an original option. I have been told by a few people that it looks like the antenna is not correct and it may be a radio delete car. With the lack of options I could see that being the case but would like to somehow verify it. Does anyone know the best way to verify the history on the car or track down any build records? Also, anyone have an idea on the market price for a car like this? I am trying to determine if it's work doing a frame off or just a cosmetic restoration on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi Mike
Welcome to the fraternity. I cant help you with the records but I am just now finishing a frame off on my 72. If you decide to do it your self have at it, its a big job but not impossible, you just have to be patient and don't rush and if you intend to do it correctly don't take short cuts. The only physical help I can Offer is to have you look at the body cradle I made and have for sale through the NCRS classifieds. There are many, many members out there and all are willing to help as I have experienced over the years of working on my car and posting questions.
Good luck and enjoy- Top

Hi Michael,
I'd like to welcome you too!
At this point you can try to determine if the 'Build Sheet' is still glued to the top of the gas tank.
It will list some good information about your car and it's options when built.
If you push down on the rubber 'boot' around the fuel filler neck and look to each side using a flashlight you MAY be able to see if it's still there.
If it is it's wise to NOT try to remove it by reaching in from the top (it's glued in place and quite fragile). If in fact it's there you should leave it in place until there's a need to, or you decide to, 'drop' the tank.
I'll post a picture so you'll have some idea what you're looking for.
From your description of the car, (disregarding the headers), should it be restored ?…. maybe it deserves to stay the way it presently is.
Again, I'm glad you're here!
Regards,
Alan
This is a 71 tank with the sheet in place. You can also see the boot I mentioned.
This car too only had a couple of options.

Thanks guys. I bought a smaller camera and looked around under the boot. Unfortunately we didn't see anything. It looks like there might be a line of glue but the build sheet wasn't there. I have not dropped the tank to are sure but we didn't see anything.- Top

To add to Alan's post on the tanks sticker, a few have been lucky to find a extra rolled up one tucked between the Speedometer and Tachometer ,and there may be a couple of other places, I myself did not have any tank sticker on my 72 ,but during the restoration in the passenger side frame rail was a mouse nest that must have been there for many years untouched I found hundreds of small pieces of paper, once I took air pressure to clean out the rails and finally realized what was blowing out of the frame rail,s I stopped and used mechanical finger to extract the rest, and ended up with about 2/3's of the sticker put everything in a bag and sat a the kitchen table during a cold winters day and started to tape together.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Have fun with your MB 70 and JSB 08.
The C6 guys on CF do use letters as well for colors, as you know, so JSB is nothing new.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

WTF....... I think this thread is headed off in a different direction than the initial question.
How should I refer to my BB 70 that is now MMR. I am just getting used to the C1, C2, C3, thing. LOL- Top
