    1972 side window dates

I recently purchased another 72 coupe which has a replacement drivers side window. Both my cars are mid June 1972 builds and they both have passenger windows dated "CN" for November 1971. The car with the original drivers side window is dated "IN" for June 1971.

I'm curious what some other late build 72's have on their drivers side.

    Thanks

Having dates a year prior are not uncommon. Are you sure it has been replaced?

      Re: 1972 side window dates

      Patrick,

Sorry, I wasn't clear in my posted question. I think the "IN" date on one of my car's is an original window. The other car has a PPG replacement window in it. I'm curious what dates are on some other May, June, and July cars. I'm curious to know if the June cars had random dates or if most of them had windows from a certain batch.

Having two "CN" windows on the passenger side of my cars makes me think it's likely the windows were installed at the St. Louis factory in batches with the same date.

I see from your signature tag that you've got a 72 Bowtie. I'd appreciate knowing your build date and glass code.

      Thanks.

        Re: 1972 side window dates

Reading this piqued my interest. Unfortunately my '72 has a Jan. 17th build day so I can't be any help to you. Both side glasses on mine are "AN."
but, something else confuses me. The bottom lines on the two glasses are different. The driver's side is, "DOT 15 M54" and the passenger side is "DOT 15 M74." I wondered "what's up with that?"

          Dan,

Thank you!!! You're the first guy that's ever asked me a question about corvettes that I could answer. I'm usually the guy asking.

Anyway, DOT 15 is the Department of Transportation's manufacturers identification assigned to Libby-Owens-Ford Glass Company. That designation was assigned to LOF on October 30, 1968. The "M" designation that follows that is the model number of the glass which confirms the construction of the glass, including composition, thickness, and specific type of lamination.

There is always an "AS" number on the glass as well. AS1 is for windshield glass only, and AS2 for side windows, vents, and rear glass.

You've made me feel so smart I think I'll go have another beer.

          Mike

            Dan,

A follow-up to my last post. The passenger side glass on both my cars is M54, both rear windows are M76, and the only original drivers side I have is M74. I suspect all 72's are the same.

                FWIW,
Here's what I've found on C3s in the neighborhood:
1971 built late November (just post-strike) (convertible)
                left UT M74 July 1970
                right IT M74 June 1970

                1972 mid-October 1971 car
                left. TN M74 August 1971
                right AN M74 September 1971
                rear GT M58 April 1970

                1972 mid-February car
                left NY M54 January 1972
                right TN M74 August 1971
                rear JN M76 May 1971

                  Thanks Mike.

I've privately emailed some friends with 72's also. I'm now of the opinion the glass went into these cars in a random manner as opposed to batches of the same date.

                      Following Mike Ernst format, my car is a;
                      1972 mid-July 1972 car
                      Left JY M74
                      Right GY M74
i didn't check the rear, but I can if you need me to.

                      regards

                          Michael,
This info may be of no use but my early 72 (8/71) has an "LN" drivers side window and an "IN" passenger side.
