    67 Black Interior Paint Source

Looking for a source for the correct sheen black paints for the various interior trim pieces. Prefer to not use aerosols. A breakdown of what is used where would be helpful as well. No one anywhere near me mixes lacquer.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Steve,

I get my lacquers from TCP Global in San Diego.

We are the #1 LARGEST Automotive Paint color reference library in the WORLD! Modern Cars, Classic Cars, WWII, WWI. Where yesterday's colors come alive today. Enter the Vehicle Make and Year to view purchase options. Online ordering is safe and secure. We ship promptly from our warehouse and pass the savings to you.

Under "CLASSIC", here is their data.....

However, I don't see a specific interior chart for 1967. They typically show interior colors for the earlier years though.

You may want to give them a call as they may have more information to help you find the correct match. It may just be Tuxedo Black with a flattening agent.

I have not seen any breakdowns of where the interior colors are identified for particular panels etc. I don't recall it in the JG, unless it's hidden in there somewhere.

edit.....After checking the latest JG just now, I see references to the interior colors sprinkled within the INTERIOR section. Basically it reads...."....painted full gloss, unpolished, to match the interior trim color...."

It may well be just Tuxedo Black everywhere there is paint, but in it's unbuffed appearance right out of the paint shop.
Page 13 of the JG has a notation.....
"** Dash color applies to dash panel, dash pads, speaker grille, console, radio side panels, and lower windshield trim."

On coupes I'd imagine this to include roof panel trims, albeit only mentioned in the "COUPE" category for the halo panel and trim moldings.

Thanks Rich. I had seen the reference to the unbuffed lacquer and figured it went pretty much everywhere but then there is a reference to the steering column being a higher gloss.
I have used SEM's trim black (available locally) on other projects and it produces a nice low sheen, but wasn't sure if this would be close enough for judging. My original plan was to use the SEM for all the panels and some semi gloss Imron that I have for the steering column. I have never had consistent repeatable results using flattening agents so was trying to stay with pre-mixed, off the shelf solutions.

Would be good to know what has been used and judged ok.

Steve, I am not sure if the black interior code is the same for 1966-67. If the interior code is the same I used a lacquer from Du Pont which was a acrylic lacquer called Lucite. The number on the quart can says 4466 L. The second digit is not clear on the quart can, but I believe 4466 L is correct. Maybe someone with a Du Pont interior color chart can help to verify the code. The color was perfect.

The low gloss black lacquer for 1966-76 is Dupont Lucite 4466-L. It is also called 3 percent gloss.

The higher gloss black lacquer for 1966-67 is Dupont Lucite 88. It is called 60 percent gloss.

Ditzler Duracryl codes for the same paint are 9292 (3 gloss) and 9248 (60 gloss).

Who still sells Dupont Lucite or Ditzler Duracryl? The only lacquers I saw on TCP's site were pre-mixed colors.

Is it only the steering column painted in the 60% and everything else the 3%?

Thanks to all for the help.

They will custom mix. You just need to explore their website. Here are a few links:

Tower Paint and Hibernia Paint are two other sources. Google for contact info. They advertise in Hemmings, and have been there for over 20 years.

                Steve,

No. On my '66 coupe with black interior, there are metal parts on the interior side of the doors that I think are clearly higher gloss than 3%, so they must be 60%.
