    Corvette jack stands

Has anyone thought about asking Chevrolet to put hydraulic jacks in the chassis of Corvette's. The winter months in northern climate these cars are often stored and getting them off the wheels would really a good idea. The Indy race cars have them as
well as many other races , just a thought.

I know this might be hard to believe but the General builds the cars to be driven, not stored on jack stands!

For those of use who see winter, I use Flatstoppers in the winter. Keeps the tires off the cold floor for the winter.

All the thing that has been said are true, my point is , has anyone tried to get a floor jack under one off these "Beasts"? Corvettes are to be driven as I've said many times, "they trailer horses, not horse power". Think how east it would be to start you engine, put a key in you storage compartment to actuate a jacking system to lift your car for whatever reason. These cars are beautiful and love driving them, but I do like to tinker also. I know, also that it may be a cost issue but "sport cars" are just that, and it maybe it could be on the OPTION list, again just a thought....

Cars should not be stored on jackstands. It can damage the suspension bushings. There is lots of discussion on this subject in the archives. Search "winter storage".

Fill the tires to the maximum cold air pressure placarded on the sidewalls, and let it sit on the ground.

High speed rated tires with nylon cap belts (or bias ply nylon cord tires) can develop flat spots when sitting in cold temperatures, but they are temporary and the tires will round out when they come up to operating temperature from driving.

Race cars have onboard jacking systems (where allowed by the rules) to expidite tire changes during the race. So how often do owners need to jack up their cars? Such a system adds weight and cost, and I don't think too many would buy such an option if it were available.

Even the aftermarket, which offers what seems to be every conceivable doo-dad for new Corvettes has never offered a "bolt-on" onboard jacking system that I am aware of.

On board jacks would be, "....an ingenious solution to a non-existent problem"...

I've always liked my car to be ready to roll no matter where it was, and specially in a garage. I always leave it in neutral and the E-brake off in case of a fire, whether it be the car (save the garage and/or the house) or the garage and/or the house (save the car). If your garage has a sloping floor, and most do, I put a small block back of a wheel near the garage door that can be reached easily for removal. Then, as us C-2 owners know, those bumpers make good handles to pull the car out.

...and a huge legal liability if it ever deployed while driving!

Only if they are made in China, besides did any deploy on a race track? I think it's something to think about along with making cell phones inoperable while a motor is running.....

Naa...I would like a grill mounted laser that could vaporize the car ahead that chooses to drive 45 MPH in the left lane with a 70 MPH limit.

                        Is this asking too much???
