Need help with color identification on my '60

Hello all! I hope I am posting this in the right place. I am in the process of restoring a '60. I was told the original color on the car was Honduras Maroon. I have read some conflicting info on this. Any advice on what color this car was originally would be greatly appreciated! ;-) Oh, I scrapped on the orange looking paint and got just primer and fiberglass... Was the original paint the "orange" without white in the coves? I have another project '60 with original Roman Red paint I think. I took a chip and put it up next to the "orange" and it didn't match either. Many thanks for your time and any advice!

Jasen: In the trunk behind the cardboard divider on the right side try scraping off the original paint. At the factory the workers used a wax crayon to write the color the car was to be painted. If that area of the car was not striped it should be there.

Looks like it was black . Steve is correct the factory color should be written under the paint behind the rt seat back and on the rear bulkhead behind the trunk cardboard .

Jasen, The "orange" may be Roman Red, a bit of a more orange tint originally.

On my '59, the color in crayon was visible after scraping the paint away in the trunk area.

If you scrape your paint away and it's "Red", it may have originally been Roman Red.

Richard I think its Black , Look at the front park lamp opening , under the front grille opening and where the orange is peeling off in the front cove area. The crayon will tell him for sure .

Yes I saw that too Bill, but thought it may be shadows, but now I see more black as you mentioned.

The crayon will tell him....... if it's still there. I hope it is. I remember 29 years ago after I got my '59 I read the article in Vette Vues about the crayon marks in the trunk. It was late that night and and went down to the garage and started pulling the trunk apart. Wife came down and said what the heck are you doing now?. I said.... "archaeology". When she saw the crayon mark in the pic above she said....."Cool".

I will be scraping paint today! :-) Also as a side note, when pulling out the top we found what I think is evidence that this was a power top car originally...? Thanks so much for all the replies! I am so embarrassed I got too focused on the orange and didn't even see the black and I was staring right at it! LOL!
