I am installing new carpeting in my 1961. Any hints, helps, or how-to videos would be appreciated.

Re: 1961 Carpet Installation
I've done my car twice now (its a '61) nothing needed except a sharp knife and patience. The carpet will usually need trimmed at the "U" bracket around the lower center console, at the kick panels and the sill plates. I do not use ANY glue ANY where; if your car will be judged you are supposed to have some I am told. I've heard of sneaky folks putting velcro in the footwells so if a judge tries to pinch the carpet and pull up on it to check for glue it won't move. Wherever you need to make screw holes burn through the carpet with a soldering gun first or dowse the screw with WD-40 or it'll catch a thread and unravel a whole row of carpet fiber.- Top

Re: 1961 Carpet Installation
1. Judges will pinch the carpet in the middle of the floor and pull up to see if you have glued it there. 1 point deduct. But you don't need to much glue to keep the carpet in place and down.
2. Look at the AIM. There are 2 screws on each side that hold the carpet to the firewall. Rather than drill 4 new holes, install pins or thin nails in the 4 holes from underneath the car. Then when you install the carpet from the interior, you can push the carpet down onto the nails to locate the holes and where to place your screws. You can find the holes from underneath the car before the carpet is installed by shining a light in the interior and looking for the holes from underneath the car.
3. Check the archives to see how the seat rails are attached.- Top
