C2 interior door lock shaft and connection

Any one have a few good pictures of the interior door lock rod and connection .

The only way I can figure it , puts it "Very Close" to the window tract, and again the AIM is vague at best .

Here are some pics of how I have it installed , with the sleeve removed for a better view of the rod . How have you all done it ?

Hi Jim, I had my doors apart recently redoing vent window gears and one of the locks, and found this picture. My concern is it appears you have installed your lock rod with the end inserted from outside towards inside. In my photo you can see the rod is installed with the end facing outward, and this keeps it well away from the window. Maybe others will have better pictures

Jim, Hard to tell from your photos but do you have the correct "bell crank in that location? It looks like you have the bell crank with the shaft on it. Looking at the AIM UPC1 K7 the bell crank with the shaft goes into the forward location. (1967 car) Also the lever must point rearward on the right door and forward on the left door. It appears you have the correct orientation for the rod that goes from the bell crank to the latch mechanism.

It looks like the 67 was completely different than 66 .

As to the crank , here is what I have , and as far as I can determine both tabs face rearward . I remounted it outside for demonstration purposes.

Jim, I've attached the AIM page for a 67 door. I would think that the bell crank would still mount with the tab forward and reverse depending on the door, even tho in 66 the lock knob was to the rear of the door vs. a 67. If not, it looks like you've installed it correctly. Maybe that is why the knob was moved for 67 Also. If they are both installed the same then the "lock" position of the knob would be different, side to side. (Twist one clockwise and the other CCW to lock).

Note that for 67 they added the forward mounting hole for the additional bell crank and the rear mounting hole has a bell crank with no knob shaft.

Item 11 is a left and right.......

Thanks Stephen,

It looks like I will go with what I have . I tried reversing the left crank and it wouldn't even line up with the holes That half circle on the knob needs to go in the half circle notched into the door. I looked up the part on CC and they do not indicate right and left .So I guess it's CW and CCW .

Just FYI I posted a pic of my 66 door . Note the difference in the access hole .

Jim - Your rod is installed correctly but it appears to have an arc which may put it too close to the door glass. Mine is somewhat flatter. These pictures were taken before taking my doors apart. Tim

Agree with Tim regarding the "arc", but I also installed them backwards to get completely away from the window glass. No issues at all with this on my 63 convertible doors.

Hey Tim ,

Just the picture I was hoping for ! Thanks . I straightened out the Rods and they did fit better , but was still close .The reason I didn't try to bend them is because they both had the same arc on them. I'm guessing years of use bend them that way. One of the previous owners must have been very paranoid !

I had thought of that also but that same arc that protruded into the window tract also rubbed on the inner door skin , making it difficult to operate the lock if reversed . After I had straightened them up a little , I tried the reverse set up again and it does indeed work , and moves the rod well away from the glass .
