Re: c2 rod nuts

These connecting rod nuts are a special nut and, for 1955-67, an oddball size of 11/32-24. They were of GM #527599 but they are discontinued. I don't think you'd find this size in a hardware store if you looked for a hundred years. You can obtain a set of these from Pioneer Products under their number S-1040. Most good auto parts stores should either have or be able to get these. I STRONGLY recommend that you replace ALL of the nuts. That's the very least I would do when re-using connecting rods.
By the way, 1968+ small blocks used 3/8-24 rod bolts and nuts. That's why the 350 nuts you tried were too big.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: c2 rod nuts
There absolutely has to be a bunch of guys here who have a few small journal rod bolts/nuts in a can on the back of their workbench (including me). If you have no luck locating any nuts, send me a PM and I'll see if I can locate my collection.- Top

Re: c2 rod nuts
Steve,
What rods are you using? If they're the originals, Duke Williams has mentioned many times here that they are prone to breakage. I would recommend looking on this board for his posts on this subject. Or send him an email through this board.

Re: c2 rod nuts
If it's an early 250 or 300 HP engine with the spindly rods that you will never rev over 5000, they are probably okay. For SHP/FI engines or a 300 HP built to Special 300 HP configuration that will make useable power to 6500 a set of Eagle SIR5700 rods for $250 is the cheapest insurance you will ever buy.
