    72 SB Schwitzer fan clutch

    Happy Easter members,
My clutch fan is a little noisy this spring and I have noticed a little play in the shaft bearing.
Has anyone purchased a repo? just looking at my options as I haven"t heard of a rebuild kit available.

    Cheers,Barry

You can buy a repo form LI corvette 800-466-6367 or Zip Corvette 800-962-9632
      .
You can have yours overhauled, usual turnaround time is about 3-4 weeks and priced around 200.00

I used Fred Oliver to overhaul my clutch fan but I can't find his contact no.

        Mike and Barry-------

The original clutch for all 1972 applications was GM #3991426. This is a Sweitzer-manufactured clutch and it's very difficult to find in NOS condition. It's very similar to the 68-70 fan clutch, GM #3937771 but the two are not interchangeable due to different hub and fan bolt patterns.

The once-upon-a-time GM replacement was GM #460742. This was an Eaton-manufactured clutch. It differed in configuration from the 3991426 in many ways but it was a very high quality unit. It was discontinued and replaced by the GM #88961763 which remains available from GM. I don't know much about the latter. However, I think it may be a Hayden/Four Seasons-manufactured clutch. This may be a perfectly functional and acceptable replacement but I'm not too keen on these Hayden/Four Seasons clutches. They usually have slotted hubs. I hate that. You might want to look for an NOS 460742. It's not an original configuration, of course, but I like it a lot more.

Long Island Corvette only sells parts for 63-67 Corvettes. While some of these may be the same as some C3 parts, fan clutches are not included. No original or original reproduction 63-67 fan clutch will work for any 71 or later Corvette.

I don't know what Zip sells but I know of no reproduction of the GM #3991426 fan clutch which was originally used for 1971-72 Corvettes.

I have an April 72 dated SC clutch unit.
no slop, turns nicely and thermo parts functions.

clutches in and out with temp.

I had it on my 72 454 and did not sell it with the car.
