Do NOT use synthetic oil.
Suggest you do a search on this site for recommended oils to use and why.- Top

Sara,
Use a good 30W oil, like Valvoline; that is what I use in my 283 engine; change the oil filter when you change the oil.
Go have fun with it.Dr. George

Sara-
There's a lot more to choosing a suitable oil than type, brand name and viscosity. Virtually none of today's commonly seen on the shelf are suitable.

Cosworth Vega* too....One of the neatest non-Corvettes that Chevrolet made.
* Mike Eby was a former owner of a 1975 model...Don't recall the dash plaque number though.

I embarrassed a lot of name brand sports cars at Riverside and Willow Springs with my Cosworth Vega from the early eighties to the late-nineties. Of course, it was "Tuned by Duke" - remapped spark and fuel maps, reindexed camshafts, Monza brakes, bigger anti-roll bars, Spax shocks, DOT legal racing tires, and under the rocker open exhaust blasting in their ear as I blipped the throttle on a downshift passing them braking into a corner.
They never knew what hit 'em.
