    Spindle Inspection Markings

    Question,

I am wondering if anyone else has seen inspection paint on spindles other than the red/orange paint called out in the TIM&JG? Here is what I found when I pulled the front suspension off my May 6th, 66 car. Blue on one side and white on the other.

When it was recently judged, the chassis judge had issue with it and told me it "wasn't typical."

On my April 65 car - both sides - the lower ears had dark green paint on them. Both sides - above the spindle, on the outside was a green daub and an orange hash mark. One side only, above the spindle on the inside was a white hash mark.

How do you do the orange on the spindles?? Buy a quart of orange paint and dip them to about 3 inches on each end?? If so who makes a correct color paint..

The orange on my spindles was a single hash mark approx. 1/2" wide and 2" long. It looked like it was done with a small brush, certainly not dipped.

Jimmy I was told years ago that the amount of orange on the spindles depended on how full the paint container was . My 65 was completely covered in orange .DSC_1434.jpgDSC_1433.jpgDSC_1431.jpgDSC_1417.jpg

With all the different colors and formats that have been shown on known original cars, I think it's safe to say that nothing should be considered "typical" and these marks shouldn't be judged or even commented on.
Here's a pic. showing green on mine where Rob's is blue and white.

                        Guys,

Colors are mostly used as "Parts Identification" paint marks. Very few are "Inspection" paint marks.

Inspection paint mark of a thin swipe of robins egg blue on the rear pinion nut indicates the nut was properly torqued. That's an inspection paint mark.

Agreed, and thanks for the clarification. Mine had yellow "daubs" on the nuts which I copied too.

                            Rob,
Here are the original spindle markings on Kathy's 66. Aside from me cleaning them during this photo, I don't think they've ever been messed with. Blue (almost purple) on the top inward portion.
