1966 - holes in driver's inner skirt next to voltage regulator

I am doing some fiberglass work on my driver's side fender skirt and have a couple of holes which I am not sure if I need to fill or not. They are forward of the voltage regulator and look like they would be perfect for a couple of straps to retain the wiring harness, but mine didn't have any straps there when I purchased the car. I looked in the 66 AIM page 12-A8 and it looks like one of the holes might be used for a strap, but again I have two.

So what are they for? If they are both for straps then was this a running change that wasn't picked up in the AIM? My car has a April build date. Is this in the 67 AIM? My car is also an A/C car so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it and its just not shown in the AIM (kind of like the moving of the hood prop to the driver's side for A/C cars, or at least I haven't found it in the AIM).

My Guess is that the upper hole should not be there

My April 66 car doesn't have either of those holes.

        Russ,

Curiouser and curiouser ! My 66 is also a late April build A/C car , and the hole pictured was already there . At least near the area where the AIM shows one .
Maybe the A/C makes a difference , or maybe they were drilled at the line , at various locations, and yours went through while the driller was on a coffee break !

My guess to Jeremy was based on two things . First the location of my hole, and second ,in his picture showing both holes, the upper one looked a little ratty .

Jim, My wiring doesn't run down the inner fender to near the flap like your picture. It runs along the top of the inner fender.

Thanks for the replies. Curious what members with 67s with A/C might say if they look at this thread.

              I am sure some have.

I don't know what to tell you except the AIM, mine , and 1 other picture I found seem to say they should go low .However I don't know what year , much less what month the car in this picture was built.

What did your wiring look like before you took it out , straps or not ? Did it have the bend in that area , or did it run straight across the upper fender ?

My harness runs down along the bottom of the skirt, inline with the holes, but no straps. It then turns up to the horn relay.

It ran strait across the upper fender with straps.

In that case , I would stick with my previous answer.

Your straps just dried up and fell off .I ordered some years ago and kept them in the garage here in Phoenix . Years later I went to use them and even they were too brittle to use .Several broke within days of installing them . Imagine what engine heat does to them over the years !

Route it as shown in the AIM , or as it was , and buy new straps to replace the missing ones.

Repairing some Fiberglass on my '66 Convertible, Found this old thread when searching for holes in inner fender. I have a hole in the inner fender near the hood support. I'm not sure it's supposed to be there. According to what I see in JG and AIM the wiring harness runs below that hole. Anyone one know if this hole should be there. perhaps the wiring harness runs higher along the top than I think
