    Parts list help

I have a friend that is installing a 454 crate engine into his 1967.
What aluminum bellhousing, clutch and flywheel should he use? He will be using a Muncie 4 spd. He doesn't know if its a CR or a WR unit.

Also what clutch fork, pivot stud, and Z-bar should he use, or will the SBC Z-bar work and parts work?

His car his choices........he will be pulling his original 300hp sbc out (and storing it) to do this wasp. So would he also need a BB hood for carb clearance?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Parts list help

621 bell housing with an 11 inch clutch assembly

Either Z bar will work but the clutch rod from the z bar to the fork might need adjusting All studs equal

    Hood definitely needed

He can use either the existing '3858403' bellhousing or he can change to the 3899621. If he uses the '403', then he needs to use an externally balanced 12-3/4" flywheel. If he uses the '621', then he needs to use a 14" flywheel. Either way, he needs a flywheel which is externally balanced and compatible with a 1 piece seal crankshaft (since almost all current crate 454's use the 1 piece seal). The 14" flywheel will be GM #14096987. GM no longer offers a 12-3/4" flywheel for this application but I think they are available in the aftermarket.

GM does not offer a clutch for this application. No problem, though. Use a LUK. Assuming the Muncie is a 10 spline input (which all original 1967 Muncies used) and with the 14" flywheel use a LUK Repset 04-049. If it happens to be a 26 spline input (i.e. not an original 67 transmission), then use LUK 04-020.

If the transmission is the original one from his car it will be a wide ratio. No close ratio was available with the 300 hp engine.

For a 1967, the clutch fork, pivot stud and z-bar will be the same as was originally supplied with his car.

For a 1967 he MIGHT, and I stress MIGHT, be able to use the stock small block hood with a big block if he uses the 1970-71 LS-6 intake manifold, GM casting #3963569. However, for this to work he must have a big block with rectangular port heads. If he has a big block with oval port heads, the Edelbrock Torker II MIGHT, and I stress MIGHT, work with a small block hood. If you can advise as to the part number of the crate big block he is using, I should be able to advise as to which heads it has. By the way, I don't like the Torker II for street applications but, if he has oval port heads, it's the only one I know of that MIGHT work with a small block hood.
