    Yet Another 4346 Question!

Here are photos of a supposedly new, never used 4346 that sold for $750.

Note that there is no parting line on the flange as per NCRS JG.

    Is this possible.....opinions, conclusions?

    Thank you!

    John

Two under-informed bidders don't make a part correct!

I don't know, it just looks like to me that someone screwed in an old fitting to display it....the teflon doesn't even extend to the lower threads.....how about the parting line question?

Ok fine......so, is there a possibility that a legit 4346 could not have a parting line or only a legit 4346 has a parting line?

              Hi Steven,

I found the ended listing on eBay:

The blue may be due to a lack of lighting......one photo with lighting shows what may be the actual finish/color.

I also just noticed that no one actually bid on it. The seller also stated "Original Fuel Pump, never used, but reconditioned".....that may explain why the screw heads had a bit of use.

Whatever....I'm just trying to nail down the parting line question....if their were originals with and without parting lines......maybe a lack of or less pronounced parting line could be due to the die wearing out or it is simply a phony pump......I don't know!

              Thanks!

                John,
In theory if the tooling (die) wears out the parting line would be more pronounced or more noticeable.

                  John parting line indicates original.

                    Hi Bruce,

                    Ok.....so much for that idea!

                    Thanks!

                      Hi Dave,

Yes, I like the parting line....and the 4346 is read left to right from the flange gasket surface, whilst the one I posted is reversed!

So, can we positively assume the the one I posted is a phony and there were no originals without a parting line? Also, may I have your pump?

                      Thanks!

Hi John, Sure you can have the pump.
At this time it is in my 57 so as soon as I am done with it I will give you a call.

                          Hi Dave,

Ok, cool....I'll just find a pretend one for now until you are through putzing around with my pump!

                          Thanks man!

I found and checked my never-rebuilt 4346 fuel pump yesterday. The parting line is very distinct and the "4346" looks nothing like the numerals in the (now-ended) auction:
