Re: March 19, 1965 - The Birth of the Big Block Corvette!
Bill , What do you mean by first "regular production "396. how many were built before yours that were not regular production ? I have 9 cars on my 396 list built before yours . One # 12201 was listed as a bowtie car. and one 12682 was a block . I dont know if any of the early ones are real . But I would like to know with out a doubt what the serial number of the first 396 is . If any one has a 396 built before Bills (12864) please let us know . Bill sorry to hijack your cars birthday. Happy birthday to all 396 cars . (I know # 46 was a prototype )- Top

Re: March 19, 1965 - The Birth of the Big Block Corvette!
The weather forecast up here in Calgary will probably be nice for (either) Thursday 30th July 2015 [to correspond with NCRS Shipping Data Report "GM Official Production Date" Friday 30th July 1965]; or, more likely, Monday 3rd August 2015; as another GM source (Chevrolet Central Office memo to Zone Service Managers titled -- 'Last 1965 Model Serial Numbers Built Each Month -- Restricted Information') lists two Corvettes, VINs 23563 and 23564 built in August 1965.
So I think I'll pour a BB (big bottle) of champagne in ...564's tank on that Monday to celebrate two milestones; the last 396 and also the last '65.
