    Cracks in door jambs

Both doors on my 66 coupe have vertical cracks approx. 6 inches long on jamb side of the doors themselves. Both doors are adjusted properly and close very easily. Anyone seen these type of cracks before?

    Thanks, Rick.

    Re: Cracks in door jambs

Rick - It's been a couple years since I was inside the doors of my 66 Coupe so I'm only going off of memory here (probably a big mistake ;-) but the doors are basically glued together and I'm wondering if those crack lines are following the seams. Still would figure there'd need to be some sort of impact to the door to cause the paint to crack though. Can you fill us in on some of the details like how long you've owned this 66 and how long those cracks have been present?

Hi Mike. I have only owned this particular C2 for a few weeks ( have owned other ones previously) I just noticed the cracks. When I got the car, the doors shut well - average I would say, certainly they were not difficult to close, and were not being slammed. I have had the doors off, and had to grind the outside of the top hinges as well as add 4 shims to the bottom hinges ( there were no shims at all in either door when I got the car) , but this was because I wasn't happy with the gaps/fit of the doors. They fit pretty well now, and you can close them like with one finger - super easy. Who knows what went on in the last 50 years with the car. The doors showed no evidence of damage/repair on the inside when I had the interior door panels off. I mainly am interested if others have seen cracks like this on C2's before. Thanks for posting.
      Rick.

The person who painted your car just filled the step between the lock mechanism mounting plate and the fiberglass door shell. It is now beginning to crack because thick bondo always cracks. Your door should look like the picture in this area.

No need to worry about an accident or damage if the door shuts good. Expect an appropriate deduct if you ever go through judging.

Tracy, That's exactly it! Thanks for posting. I am somewhat relieved now. I didn't feel that the cracks went clear through, but without other doors to compare mine to, the cracks made no sense. Not a big problem. Much appreciated !
