1964 327/300 Water Pump Mounting Bolt Lengths and Head Marks

Can someone confirm the correct bolt lengths and head marks for the water pump bolts on a 1964 327/300 without A/C? Mine were replaced at some point, and I am trying to figure out what to look for to replace them. I have a "bucket of bolts" saved from several SBC engine tear-downs, and hope that I have some correct bolts in that bucket. If not, I guess I will order some reproductions.

    Regards,
    Todd

Todd, I have a 63 327/340 car the water pump bolts are different lengths than yours but it does have the originals I have one a stud because of idler pulley and the others are 1 with a (A) stamp and the other two have a (M) stamp, all have a grade 5's, I really suppose the lengths are all slightly different pumps on the 64 is a 608 part no. and mine is 326 part no. and the one bolt with alternator brace maybe a 1/4" longer.

      Todd -

Measure the thickness (depth) of the four bolt bosses on your water pump and add 3/8" to 1/2" and see if you have any Grade 5 bolts in your "bucket" that match up.

Thanks for your replies. I will have to get with the machine shop that has my engine and have them measure the pump bosses. The pump I have is a stock 608 pump.

          Todd,

Over the last 30 years I have collected about a dozen or so 1960's Chevrolet water pumps from salvage yard along with their attaching bolts. Two of the water pumps were from 1964 Chevrolets w/283 engines. The bolts are listed below:

          Pump #1: Eng. stamped "F0225D" (Feb. 25, 1964)
          only one bolt, encircled "AP"on head with 3 radial line segments, 3/8"-16 X 1 3/4", 1 3/16" thread length

Pump #2: All bolts with "TR" on head with 3 radial line segments
          2 bolts, 3/8"-16 X 1 3/4", 1 1/8" thread length
          1 bolt, 3/8"-16 X 2 3/4", 1 1/8" thread length
          1 stud

Note: The bolt lengths (1 3/4" & 2 3/4") are from under the bolt head to the end of the bolt.
