    1967 windshield gasket

I have been toying around with the idea of pulling my windshield out to replace the gasket, since I have had all of the inner and outer trim pieces polished. Then today I hit the windshield ( original ) with some 3m polish for a couple of hours , and cleaned up the existing gasket, then decided it looked good enough the way it was and proceeded to try to install the lower windshield trim. Worked away at it for about an hour and I don't think there is any way that I can get it to catch on the old clips. So I guess I don't have a choice but to re and re the glass, so I can replace the clips. In anticipation of this job I had ordered new clips from paragon, as well as a new gasket, but after reading a bunch of posts in the archives, some people have said that there is only one manufacturer that makes the proper gasket ( can't remember the name, something corvette rubber?) anyway I am just wondering if I should attempt to change out the glass with the gasket I have, or am I just asking for problems?

Dave, can you see your clips? Are they corroded with rust or covered with debris or caulk? Can you see them good enough to adjust them with a small screw driver and small needle nose pliers. I made a slamming hammer out of a fist sized bunch of dum dum and wrapped it in a couple of grease rags and wack on the trim pretty aggressively without any damage but the clips need to be clean and in a receptacle angle and good mood if you will. They cannot be forced with impatience and get good results. Do you have the clip tools? They sometimes can be used to open the tiny area that holds the trim. If it is corroded and/or rusty all bets are off. Better to get new ones from a reputable supplier and start from scratch. Corvette rubber used to make good windshield gaskets. I haven't bought one for some time. Enjoy that 67, Paul

Thanks Paul , I can see the clips but they seem to be spread open too much, and they won't unspread, I don't have the clip tools, I like your idea about the hammer, I just received the new clips today maybe now that I can see how they work, maybe it can fix the old ones.

Corvette Rubber makes a good gasket......use 2 people and a small/medium rope to install glass.....lube the metal to help move gasket into place......If you can use the original trim clips for the lower molding, some repro are difficult to get to snap the moulding properly.....Be aware of the painted upper grill area when applying pressure to the trim... Not that bad of a job as my and the misses installed mine......P..
