    1956 Corvette Generator

I am looking for a #1102043 generator with the correct end plates:

Aluminum Corvette front end frame - part #1933109

Cast iron Corvette rear end frame - part #1934131

Does anyone happen to know the center to center distance from the center of the armature to the center of the rubber bushing mounts for the Corvette generator brackets? I don't want to end up with passenger car brackets as they have a larger C/C and would cause the generator to sit taller on the exhaust manifold mount.

    Thanks!

    John

    John, Enclosed files should help.

The 1102043 Corvette Generator armature center to mount center spacing is 3 1/4". Pass cars are 3 1/2".

The 1956 Passenger car Power steering generator is the same . The parts book show both ends and main housing the same parts number . The Corvette mounting bracket is different because it spaces the Generator forward to line up with the water pump. The water pump is spaced out because of the motor mount. Remember there is a small spacer under the harmonic balance to space it out . The balancers were always flying off . So it is a good idea to have your crank shaft drilled and taped for a bolt . If i remember right there is no point deduction for the bolt.

Agreed. The 1102041 1956 power steering passenger car generator has the same end plates as a 1956 1102043. The 2041 is a 30 amp generator, and is much easier to find than the 2043.

The end plates changed between powers steering and Corvette starting in 1957.

Bottom line here for a 1956 1102043......I'm looking for an aluminum front and a cast iron rear bracket with a armature center to mount center spacing of 3 1/4", correct?

Yes, that is correct. However, since you are looking for a 56 generator, your options are expanded. The 56 2043 generator has the same end plates as the 56 2041 generator. No problem to make a 56 2041 into a 56 2043.

Why is this good news. 56 2043 generators run about $250 to $300, if you can find one. 56 2041 generators run about $100 to $150, and they are pretty easy to locate.

Find a 2041 and send it off to John Pirkle. He will make it absolutely beautiful, and create a properly dated 2043 tag for it.

              Good luck on your search.

                Hi Edward,

                Ok....good stuff, thank you!

As a side note, I had a 2043 that came with the motor and didn't need it as I was building the engine for my '56 passenger car and already had a generator and power steering unit that I was going to use....so I traded it for a correct distributor....then I sold the passenger car and decided to build the engine as it was installed in the '56 Corvette.....drat!
