Removal of "J" Clip from Glove Box Light Switch

Does anyone have any advice as to how to safely remove the "J" clip from an original '65 glove box light switch? I've researched the Archives here and learned basically how the clip was originally installed by inserting it into the small slot in the back of the switch. But I've also read that this clip was originally designed to be installed into the switch once and not later removed. And I seem to be having trouble getting the clip out now. How do you remove this J clip without breaking something in the switch? Thanks in advance.

There is a kit made by Snap-on for taking sockets apart. Their part number is TT600, an expensive little bugger. It may not work for removing the J clip. Most times the plastic is gouged when you force the J clip out, then it is always loose.

Another solution that adds to safety, remove all the screws from the glove box, pull it out as far as you can, then cut the wire. Oh, disconnect the battery first as this wire is always hot. Place a connector on both wires, male on the light side and female on the hot side. Then you can disconnect with ease in the future.
