The NCRS judging books say that the aluminum thermostat housing on a 1966 427 L36 has the part number 3877660 on the 'foot'. A parts company in NY ( They have always been a reliable dealer) says they housing came both ways and sells one with the numbers on the neck. Anyone know if they are both correct? Thanks, Georges

Joe,
Thanks, I read these. Am I correct in assuming that the early 1966 427s - mine is a Jan 21, 1966 car, had a housing with the number on the flange and late were on the neck?. Not sure I ever saw an 'official weigh-in' by the NCRS Director of Judging. I have the latest judging manual and am attempting to bring my car up to NCRS judging standards after 39 years - OFTEN FRUSTRATING!

I don't see there's a issue. The NCRS judging guide indicates the 3877660 (embossed on the flange) is the thermostat housing that should be used. That's what I'd have on the car as that is what you'll be held accountable for.........- Top

Thanks, Michael, but if one has several copies of the manuals as issued over the years, they have changed with new editions. Some things changed during mid-year production - 1966 seat belts as an example - Just trying to do it right the first time.- Top
