    1956 distributor survey

OK, got a couple of questions for all of you 1956 owners.

Assuming you have an original distributor in your car, it is either a 1110872 or a 1110879 distributor.

The change from 1110872 to 1110879 occurred around May 11, 1956.

In addition to the changes in the centrifugal advance, one obvious difference is the orientation of the oiling tube.
The 872 distributor oiling tube curves out and BEHIND the ignition shielding. The 879 and later years 891 distributor
oiling tube curves out and IN FRONT OF the ignition shielding.

Does anyone have either an 872 or 879 distributor that does not conform to this oiling tube configuration?

I am also wondering is the passenger car two four barrel cars used the same curved oiling tubes? Anyone know about passenger car 2x4 1956 distributors?

I'm not sure I am of any help but I have a distributor #847 which was installed on a 327 I purchased some years ago hDistributor 1.jpgDistributor 2.jpgere are photos of it. I always thought it came from a 1956 full size Chevrolet but never new the correct application.

The 847 is a passenger car, 2bbl or single 4bbl, single point distributor. They were used in 55 and part of 56 in full size passenger cars.
