I just found a 1969 Camaro (VIN 124379N604331) currently on Ebay that has a body build date of "02D" (4th week of Feb. 1969). The Muncie transmission (stamped "9N606152" and "P9M20") indeed was an original 1969 Camaro (probably a Z28) as I believe that only Camaros and Firebirds were made in Norwood, Ohio, ("N" stamping) during the 1969 model year. I had assumed that the August 20th date ("P9M20") was in 1969 (which was wrong and should have been 1968 as you mentioned) since the first 1969 Camaro made in Norwood had a partial VIN of 9N500001.
    Dave -

I think it's unlikely that a February '69-built Camaro would have an August '68 Muncie. My all-original '69 Z/28, built 02D (shipped February 28th, 1969), VIN 124379N606402, has its original Muncie, stamped P9B17B (February 17th, M21) and 9N606402. 3925660 main case and steel tag 3946798 on the side cover. Virtually every dated component on the car falls into a 2-week window prior to the car's assembly date.

As I said, don't know if it's true, and couldn't prove it one way or another....just something I "learned" a hunnert years ago.
Ah, I misunderstood, but there is no reference to those "extra" letters in the Chevrolet literature -- at least none that I have seen.

        John,
The Feb. 69 partial VIN with the Aug. 68 build date stampings on the Muncie that was in the 63 SWC were real. Strange things do happen. I sold the 63 SWC in 1990 so there is no way for me to verify. Back when I owned the 63 SWC I was and still am extremely careful in documenting the my research. It could have been a stamping error at the Muncie factory but that is unlikely because humans do not make mistakes.......or do they.
