1962 chevrolet bel air 409 specification or judging type book

I have restored several corvettes but am venturing into restoring a 62 Chevrolet bel air 409 bubbletop. Anyone know of a manual or book that provides the correct detail that I can use to restore the car back to original such as our corvette judging manuals for the various years? I have the engine books but looking for the car as a whole.

    Charles,

The GM historical web site information kits may have some information useful to you.

GM Heritage is committed to preserving the rich history of General Motors brands while providing a foundation for continued innovation into the future.

Once you get to the site, scroll down to "Chevrolets (All Models Not Listed Below)"

Click on "Show" and a list of years for Full Sized Chevrolets will open up.

In your case, select "1962", and Accept the usage agreement.

A pdf containing information about the 1962 year cars will download. You can save off the pdf for later use.

I did not go through this specific pdf but the Corvette pdf typically has dealer training information,
    Manufacturer specifications, etc.

    Nice part is it's free.

Thank you for this post. After restoring C1 cars for a good number of years I decided to try something new. I took delivery of a 1941 Chevy pick-up truck just yesterday. I know less than zero about this vehicle. The site you listed is a great source of information.

Good luck on your project. I included a photo the cover of an old Chevrolet Performance Handbook that had alot of coverage on the 409 motor. You might be able to find one on ebayl Also had to post a couple of photos of my car back in the day.

John Neas of Tulsa is the original owner of a '62 2dr sedan 409 that he drag raced. It may have turned over 12,000 miles by now.

                  Page,
Looks like Richmond Dragway. Spent some time there back in the day. Didn't have guardwalls back then. Just a dirt embankment! LOL.

Charles, I too have ventured out in to the uncharted waters of non Corvettes a few times. I have recently restored a couple trifive Chevys and a 2nd generation Camaro. Your search for the source documents was one I went on for those. You quickly realize how wonderful NCRS is. I have found that although there is no one source like NCRS for other models there is also no "one source" to judge them. Therefor restorations are not as heavily scrutinized. (meaning you can cut a few more corners when completing them) Period correct is much more acceptable.

I would recommend the Assembly manual for the 62:

Bought the assembly manual. I have far to much unprofitable knowledge of 67 corvettes. If you ever decide to restore one I can probably help with questions if I can remember.

I purchased that book way back in 1963. It also has a section for race prepping the C1 Corvette.

                            Charles,

Your knowledge of '67 Corvettes may be "unprofitable" to you in dollars and cents but it is invaluable to the rest of us.

Charles I picked up a business card several years ago you may be interested in.

                              348 409 ANYTHING "W" Huey Gilreath 1606 Hunters Lane Nashville, TN 37207 615 876-7678 615 876-4091 is on the card.

The first engine I actually rebuilt was a 348 for my 1958 Impala in 1964. Used a 409 solid lifter cam, balanced, 3 2's, and installed a 66 Muncie 4-speed from a 64 El Camino. My high school senior year project.
