waterpump to a/c- fan belt size 1966 FACTORY-AIR

I need to shorten the the fan belt one size down.It is the belt from the compressor to the water pump pulley. The # on the belt is 7460 GATE XL 11A1170. THE BELT IS 4' LONG. ARE BELTS MANUFACTURED BY THE 1/2"?

In general, yes. For example, the 7460 has an effective length of 46". I would expect that the next shorter belt would be a 7455 which would be 45.5" in effective length.

However, there are some oddball length belts made. Usually, these are for application in which an exact and oddball length is needed for some specific application.

WHAT IS THE ORIGINAL SIZE OF THE PULLEY FOR THE 1966 A/C COMPRESSOR, REFERRING TO THE DIAMETER. I FEEL THAT MY COMPRESSOR PULLEY SITS TOO HIGH. I can not use the compressor shield that protects the hood from the slinging oil. the shield rubs against the hood. Either my aftermarket compressor pulley is too big or my fan belt is too long. Any helpful thoughts? thanks Dutch

        Harry,

I have a '65 L79 equipped with a/c. Not sure if they are configured the same, but I will get you the Gates a/c belt number I am using with no issues tomorrow morning when I can get to the car.

        Regards,

        James West

Dutch -- checking my Delco A/C parts catalog, 1964-8 Corvette all used the 15-216 part, which is the 5_3/4" OD pulley. Exception: the '64-5 L76/C60 combo with the 6_3/8". A shorter belt will lower the pulley, per the arc in the groove of the front adjustment bracket -- caution not too short, or compressor will contact the valve cover. Also watch clearance on lower rad hose.

Dutch -- I'm confused with your stated belt length of 4 feet. I don't have the '66 AIM, but my '65 book says the compressor belt (which is in groove #2 of the crank and water pump pulleys, counting forward from the engine) says to use # 3849085, which is 57.0" in length, and 15/32" wide. This part # changed up to # 3888404 on 10-67, but still has the same length and width.
