can anyone identify the colors of the 2 wired that feed the backup lite switch, the wires coming off the dash main harness. putting the dash harness in this old 65 396 and i've got an extra pair of wires that end in a black plastic connector. i believe i was mistakenly sent a dash harness for a 65 with backup lights while this vet didn't have backup lites. thanks mike

Re: dash harness, 1965 with back up lights
1965 #14790 - the two wires are blk/light green tracer and blk/pink tracer. Some say the wires changed to solid colors, light green & pink, in the last few weeks of the 65 model year and some say it didn't happen until the start of the 66 model year.- Top

Light green is the wire to the backup lights, and pink is the ignition-switched 12V feed; those two circuits are connected together at the backup light switch on the transmission when the shifter is in reverse.- Top

Re: dash harness, 1965 with back up lights
thanks gene. the supplier sent the correct non-backup lite rear harness. its the dash harness that has me stumped , what with the pair of wires( a brown and a purple) with a plastic connector, located a couple inches from the plug/dash lites that supply the clock. even if it turns out this pair of brown/purple wires are intended to connect to the backup lite switch, i guess i can leave this dash harness in the car and have no problems. what ya think? mike- Top

I'm not sure about the connector from the rear harness that connects up with the dash harness by the drivers side foot well. There is a wire for the back up lights in both if they are back up light harnesses. But mixing the two may only result in a unterminated connection for the back up lights. I suggest you look at the AIM wiring in section 12 and make sure that is the case. The rest of the wires in the connection should be good. But verification is best piece of mind.
I'd check my 65 but it is up on the lift and freezing cold out in the garage. Could take a couple hours to heat up............. More negative numbers ahead too.- Top
