1963 trim tag letters

hi all,

I am wondering if someone can help me determine what the letters mean at the end of the trim code. my trim code is 490 L my car was built october 31st. I have heard the letters (L,C etc.) correspond to dates. I have heard the letters correspond to options of the car and lastly I have heard the letters mean nothing only to the Chevrolet factory. thank you for your time. I want to verify my data tag is true!

Jordan, according to the Judging manual (L) means Vinyl & absent of Air Conditioning,

Welcome aboard, Jordan. Why not post a picture of your trim tag and we'll decode the whole thing for you. You may, also, want to go to the NCRS store here on this site and buy yourself the 1963 Technical Information Manual and Judging guide...chock full of terrific information including what you're asking here. Post some pics of the car, as well...we love pictures

other forms and other people have stated the letter refers to date so it makes me wonder. I just ordered the authentication data tag book

B5 - Car build the 5th week of October 1962.
837 - You have a Coupe
1246 - It's the 1,246 coupe Body Built

Anyone have the book handy for the rest?

490L= Red vinyl
923A= Riverside Red

I tried it on my 63, looks good except it says I have an A.O. Smith body. Must be a bug in the S/W.

Leif, the 63 tag was different than later C2's, the number after the letter is the week not the day.

There are more issues with that trim tag then the date . Inspected car previously .
