I'm trying to adjust the door on my 1961, the door fits good in the jamb and the gaps are within tolerance. My problem is when I close the door and pull back on the outside handle the door pops back out of the jamb about an 1/8 of an inch. It is like it isn't locking into place after closing. I have adjusted the striker plate in every position I can move it. I've used clay compound to measure the clearance on the door mechanism teeth and they seem to be in tolerance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Door Adjustment
I would remove the striker completely and see if you get the same resistance when holding it closed. If there is still abnormal resistance to the closed flush with the surrounding panels look at where the door is making contact. Is it just the weatherstrip compressing. Is the courtesy light jamb switch binding/out of adjustment?
The door is best adjusted b4 the striker and weatherstrip are installed. Even gaps are half of the adjustment. The panels must be flush at the frt and lower frt edges. If your gaps are correct but the frt edge of the door is lower than (inset from) the fender or rocker it will over compress the w/strip
