Found: Tank Sticker for 1967 435 conv with side exhaust

I have an original 67 tank sticker for an L71 435 HP, Goodwood Green convertible. I would like to mate it to the original car it belonged to and if we can prove the car and sticker belong together, I will give it to the new owner. On the Order Copy: the ident. No. is 817323, order #43472, zone 40, dealer 229, "427" is written by hand, the date received is 03-02-67 with Expiration date of 04-14-67. Options are: black vinyl, TI, 4 speed with Posi, WSW, White top, AM/FM,tinted glass and side exhaust. This is from a car I owned well over 20 years ago. When I purchased the car, it was declared to be a clone and was set up as an L89, red with white interior, white stinger and white top. Eventually, I wanted to become more involved in NCRS and this car just wasn't going to work. When I sold the car I declared it's history and gave the tank sticker to the new owner. He handed it back and said to burn it. I have no idea who purchased the car and have no record of the VIN. Anyone have thoughts as to how I can put the car and tank sticker back together? Does anyone know of a cloned red/white L89 convertible with side pipes?

There is no "official" way to tie a tank sticker to a particular car. If you also have a truly original window sticker still glued to the original window then the "IDENT" number will connect the tank sticker to the window sticker and the glue connects the window sticker to the car. Also, if you can determine that a particular fuel tank (with an original tank sticker glued to it) is original to a particular car then this would also be a way... assuming the tank was not from another car. If you had the original dealer sales contract which showed the "order number" and VIN number then you have a match. Typically both these numbers don't appear on the same piece of paper.....

      Hi Stephen,
I understand the difficulty in matching this document with the car. When NCRS recumes it's document verification service, with a VIN we could submit the tank sticker and it can be verified whether or not it came on the car. However, we cannot submit the document without a VIN. I'm simply trying to start a conversation within the hobby, hoping to find the car. We can shrink the pool of possibilities because of the dates. I hate to just throw away such an important piece of history.
      Thanks, Gene Leonard

        Gene:

I agree that NCRS currently has the documents to tie the VIN to the tank sticker…………but it requires a bit of extra work to do so. You can only ask.

We had a similar discussion on the CF Forum a month or two ago. IN THE TIME FRAME OF THE TANK STICKER YOU HAVE (March-April) I can probably tie the tank sticker to about a half-dozen or so possible VINs……….but can't get it any closer than that. You can go to the C2 Section over there and search under my name a few months ago for this thread.

Agree also that the current red/white L-89 owner probably doesn't want the tank sticker.

        Larry
