At the Regional at Lakeland and individual who worked at the company that made the hoods for the C4's pointed out to us a date code etching on the underside of the hood. It was present on two 1996 Corvettes. He said that the employees were instructed to etch the date code on the hood under side of the hood before it was shipped to Bowling Green. He admitted also that one etching could look like it was put on by scraping your finger nail and on the other hand really deep. It all depended on the mood/interest of the line worker.
I am attaching a photo of the hood etching date code off a 1996 Grand Sport and a CE. We are trying to get a handle on this process.
So all you guys who had your little flash lights out looking for over spray on the hood hinges, get them out again.
These date code etchings could be any place under the hood. The photos that I am attaching shows the date code etching on the passenger side near the headlamp assembly. I have already gotten a response from an individual stating it was on the driver's side in the same location.
Any information would be appreciated. Even if you can not take a photo, let me know if you have one and the build date of your Corvette.
Thanks for any help in advance.
