    Wierd e brake alarm 1962

E brake alarm switch is wired correctly (one wire on to tab on fuse block marked "BREAK AL", other wire to the bulb). Problem is that bulb stays lighted even with the key off. This will eventually kill the battery but I am at a loss as to what is wrong/incorrect. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

    Thanks John

Sounds like the switch is stuck in the "on" position. The spring may have broken inside the switch body.

      It comes apart fairly easy.

Thanks for your thoughts. I had initially wanted to blame the switch. The problem however seems to be that I am getting full time power to the tab on the fuse block rather than "key on only" power. The light turns on when the e brake is set and off when it is released. It does this whether the key is on or off. I checked my 62 and this tab only has power when the key is on. The 62 that I am currently working on however has power at this tab at all times. My puzzle continues.

John, the problem lies with the under dash harness; it's made wrong. I'd start by tracing the connection to that tab on the fuse block. Where does it get its power? Where should it get its power?

If the 2 pink wires on the ignition switch are reversed some electrical systems will work with ignition switch in the lock position.

Donald Ling (above) solved it. The two pink wires on the ignition switch were reversed.

              Thanks Donald.
