Re: C2 1966 dash pad replacement
.pdf below shows how to deal with the pad retainer clips. This task is easier if you remove the instrument panel from the car and do the removal/installation on the bench.

Re: C2 1966 dash pad replacement
Jef, It is easier out of the car, I had my drivers side worked on. The new pads are thicker than the original ones. To re-skin one is tough too. Maybe a good interior repair shop can help you with that. Cost wise, who knows? Lots of options to think about. Dan Termeer- Top

Re: C2 1966 dash pad replacement
I did my '63 pads without any instructions using the butterfly (original) clips discussed above; unlike a C1 there isn't any cutting and trial fit. My Corvette America repro pads went right on with no sweat. It is best to remove the entire dash and don't forget the bottom of the radio/heater "waterfall" is bonded to the transmission tunnel - just barely. A slight tug or a pop from the rear will break it loose for removing the entire dash.
You'll almost certainly want to dye the dash center section if it is any color besides black as it will no doubt have faded a bunch over the years...and look really bad with new pads...
I re-riveted the dash end "ears" in place with a heavy duty Home Depot rivet gun - no problem...Attached Files- Top

Re: C2 1966 dash pad replacement
Hi Jef,
I had my 67 dash re-skinned using the Al Knoch skins. Not something that I could do but the job turned out great for 1/2 the cost of new pads, including re-dying the fiberglass and the radio side panels. Got the dye from Al Knoch too. You'll need someone comfortable with the job and the dash must come out. It's an alternative.

Re: C2 1966 dash pad replacement
I reskinned a set of spares I bought from Knoch. I helped a former upholstery instructor do it. It was the first time for both of us and it took us a few hours. They turned out great and still look good after a few years. New or reskinned, just take your time and mark all the wires beforehand.- Top
