I am trying to authenticate the engine stamping on my 1966 big block 427/425. The engine was assembled in early March. If anyone has a 66 big block engined assembled around that same time frame I would appreciate hearing from you. Although the engine was assembled in March, the block casting date was the middle of January. I know the usual period between cast and assembly is shorter than this but, some anomalies exists. Thanks in advance.

Re: Engine Block Stamping
Your casting date is not an anomaly. The span is typically about 4 - 8 weeks (with outliers I have seen from 3 days to 5 months) for big blocks but less than a week for small blocks. The original block for my 67 427 was cast January 24 and built March 9.- Top

Re: Engine Block Stamping
Thank you Patrick. My block was cast January 18 and assembled March 9, well within the timeframe you point out. Good to know. I would also to compare the characters with someone who has an engine assembled close to my date for their authenticity also. I've looked at stampings on the internet but, they are inconsistent.- Top

Re: Engine Block Stamping
Hi Robert,
My L72 block cast February 4, 1966 and assembled May 16. Here is a thread I started on my stamp pad:

How about a hi res photo of your pad?
Patrick Boyd is one of our resident experts on this. You might try looking at his posts on this topic to see if you can find a trend.
Good luck!
