65/66 BB rt side valve cover
A friend was told that some late 65 BBs could have a rt side valve cover with the AC recess like the 66s had. His was built in June & is in the 22,000 vin range & did have a indented rt side cover . I have never seen or heard of this . Nolands book says these covers were not used until after 66 production was started (Oct. / Nov.). Any body with late 396s ever heard of this ????

No AC bracket recess on mine (L78 # 23564). 3rd owner removed original covers about 1968-70 and stored in his fathers barn; replaced by GM chrome units [from Nickey Chevrolet]. I got the originals from him about 1992. -

I have had three '65 L78s. One was a 3rd week of July build. None of the cars including the late one had the '66 AC recess valve coverComment

I have an early unrestored 66 425hp roadster vin#4881 and has the original valve covers on it and they are the same as my benchmark 65 396, no recess!Comment

My 1965 396 #21228 with original valve covers with no dimple.
