    Final Monthly Serial Number Question

I have a question about the final monthly serial numbers listed in the 1973 ncrs technical manual. My 73 VIN is 21987 and my trim tag has a date code April 30 . The technical judging manual lists that the final monthly serial number for April is 21933. On my build sheet in the sched-no-date box the date is 05-01 (May 1st). Can anyone explain why my VIN is past the monthly VIN sequence? After reading "Tom Russo's 73-82 Corvette Buildsheet Book" I'm thinking maybe my car's body was pulled from the line for some type of repair or repaint then re-scheduled for assembly.
Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Re: Final Monthly Serial Number Question

    Jimmy,

Welcome to the Tech Board. Car was probably just still on the assembly line at the end of the day. It rolled off the line the next day. The station for attachment of the trim tag to the body changed over the years. Should be several threads on the Tech Board/Archives about when during the process the tag was attached.

e.g. Some cars correctly have paint on the trim tag and some cars correctly do not have paint on the tag. Depends on when the tag was attached.

      David,
Thanks for the reply. This is all very new to me. I am really enjoying finding out as much as possible about my car. I do have the original build sheet with the car. I just bought the 73 in April of last year and I'm in the process of getting it back to original. I've been going over the car checking all the numbers and trying to get it back to as original as possible. I am new to the forum and just joined NCRS last year. I belong to the Pittsburgh Tri State Chapter.

I was led to believe (I too have a 1973) that trim tag was riveted on early in the body build sequence, just before or just after painting. Build could span over the course of a couple days. My trim tag is stamped October 19 and the blue compliance sticker (on drivers door) has a typed date of October 20. The published "final monthly serial #", could be mistaken? Is the blue compliance sticker still on your door?

The blue compliance sticker up to and including 1972 contains only the month and year. Did the format of the sticker change in 1973 to include the day of the month? If so you 1973+ owners have an advantage on us earlier folks.

By 78, much information was incorporated into the compiance sticker including a color change but continued to document MO/YR, excluding day.

              Terry,
The Certification sticker for '73 and '74 have the same information as the '72 and earlier stickers, including only a month / year date. The sticker is a bit larger in size from the earlier version.

I too find this to be true on my 73. It has 04/73 on the Blue Certification Sticker.

Oops, me bad. I could have sworn the DAY was on it. Too lazy last night to go look. (I'd already gone out to look under the '96 hood for etchings, but that's another thread). I must've extrapolated the 20th as completion date based on final week/month VIN #'s and the average daily build of about 100 cars. Plus the fact it sure seemed like a FRIDAY built car! My apologies for bad info!
