LT4 Harmonic Balancer Finish

The harmonic balancer / main crank pulley on my LT4 w/ 98k miles shows no signs of any finish and is covered with a thin coat of surface rust. What is the factory typical finish on this part?

Floyd, the balancer on my 9k mile LT4 also has a light coating of rust and it's hard to tell what the finish was. But it kinda looks like it may have been painted black.

My recollection of these things was that they were painted nearly flat black with a VERY THIN coating of paint.

By the way, rust on the serpentine belt groove area can cause obnoxious belt noise. Once the belt is "impregnated" with the rust particles the only solution is to replace the belt.

I'm glad you mentioned that. The car has been siting for four years and was just about to put a new belt on it.
