    windshield wipers

need a little help, finished putting the last parts back on my 64 convertible and found the passenger wiper goes off the edge of the windshield about an inch onto the bright work when turned on, I have adjusted it as close to the cowl as I can without screwing up the wiper timing, and the park just fine, are there adjustments to the motors? what am I not seeing here. thanks

    Scott,

The only adjustment you have is the position of the arm on the transmission. The WW motor just goes round and round! If I understand what you are saying the drivers side works perfectly. If it does the right side passenger should work properly when adjusted in the park position to be along the bottom of the windshield. Pull the glove box and make sure you don't have the arm upside down or the right and left rods switched. You are assemblying the mechanism wrong. Check in the service manual for the correct configuration. You do have a service manual don't you?

I had the same problem on my '63....make ABSOLUTELY sure you have wiper arms of the right length and configuration. Mine were not and that was the whole problem.....

I recently adjusted my blades so they would fit tight together close to the window trim. I did this just for looks and because I could, I guess. Now then, I'm afraid to run the wiper motor for fear the blades will hit each other. Has anyone done this and what was the result? I could run my motor to test them myself, but I thought I'd wait until I get caught out in the rain again (I think the last time was about five years ago). Also, my windshield is original and I know how and when it got each nick, and I don't want to add to the wiper pattern by running them dry. Silly, Huh?

Scott, make sure you have the wiper arms left and right mounted correctly I don't have my car in front of me, it's either left over right or right over left. JR or Stu may know this .

Here's what your wiper linkage rods and transmissions should look like with the system parked. Don't install your wiper arms on the splines until the system has been turned on, then turned off and allowed to park. The driver's side blade should be nearly touching the lower reveal molding, and the passenger side blade should be about an inch above it in the parked position. Use the fine adjustment screw on each arm to set the angle of the blades to the arms and to each other. Note that the passenger side transmission lever has an "E" stamped on it, and the wiper arms are DIFFERENT - they are RH and LH parts.
